World No Tobacco Day 2025
This coming May 31st, we celebrate “World No Tobacco Day 2025” globally.
The motto proposed by the World Health Organization for this year 2025 is:
“Let’s expose their lies, let’s protect lives: Let’s unmask the appeal of tobacco and nicotine products.”
The objective is to analyze the marketing strategies employed by the tobacco and vaping industries, which make them attractive to young people, with the tragic consequence of addicting them to nicotine.
These attractively colored devices, with fruity smells and flavors, are gaining more and more followers, especially among increasingly younger teenagers.
For this reason, international health institutions and organizations are increasingly aware of the serious problem they face.
Consequently, they are preparing proposals with feasible measures to curb this trend, which is expected to have serious consequences.
The allure of vapers and e-cigarettes
Surveys have determined that approximately 19.3% of minors between the ages of 14 and 18 smoke.
Furthermore, of this total, an estimated 11.1% of adolescents in Spain use this type of device.
This is indicated by data from the new Smoke-Free Week survey presented this Monday by the Spanish Society of Family and Community Medicine (semFYC).

This rate is nine times higher than the global average.
In fact, the average age of people starting vaping has dropped to 12 years, so we can assume that the situation is getting worse.

“Appearances are deceptive”
The appeal of e-cigarettes lies in their presentation.
The devices often mimic electronic systems and come decorated with bright colors and flavors ranging from fruit to caramel and chocolate.
What you have to keep in mind is that they are aimed at a primarily young audience.
Thus, the adolescent brain completes its development after the age of 20; therefore, it is more prone to developing dependence when it contains a psychoactive substance.
The effects of misinformation
On the other hand, the idea has spread that these products are less harmful to health, and their flavors are so appealing that it’s difficult to stop them.
Medical specialists are aware that e-cigarettes are a gateway to tobacco use.
It also adds risks, such as lung injuries and negative effects on brain development in young people.
Measures to solve the problem
- For years, the possibility of banning smoking on bar and restaurant terraces has been raised.
- Surveys indicate that 74% of the population supports this measure.
- The constant rise in the price of tobacco, as well as vaping products and hookahs, is also significant.
Awareness
Alrededor de 50.000 personas mueren en España a causa del tabaco.
Furthermore, smoking is associated with the development of up to 35 diseases, such as lung cancer, cardiovascular diseases, COPD, and diabetes.
Furthermore, tobacco and vaping worsen the symptoms and control of pollen allergies.
Take action
The objective is to raise awareness among the population about the importance of not smoking.
It’s also about supporting people who have managed to overcome this addiction and highlighting the significant social and health problem that smoking represents through family and community medicine, as well as primary care centers.
Furthermore, we are committed to raising awareness among society and governments to continue advancing measures (regulatory and otherwise) that prevent adolescents from starting to use tobacco and related products.
“We demand educational campaigns, starting in schools, as well as limiting advertising, which is what most reaches young people.
World No Tobacco Day 2025 Awareness
Finally, it should be noted that numerous institutional organizations in all Spanish cities, educational centers, associations, and hospitals will celebrate World No Tobacco Day 2025.
At the San Cecilio University Clinical Hospital in Granada, where Centro Andaluz Alfa 1 is based, we will hold an event to raise awareness among young people about the importance of not smoking.
