Our center has started to include patients in the EARCO (European Alpha-1 Research Collaboration). EARCO is a pan-European network committed to promoting clinical research and education in alpha-1 antitrypsin deficiency (AATD). The core project is the Pan-European AATD Registry, a collaboration that will provide real-world longitudinal data for AATD patients.
EARCO has a global vision to increase early diagnosis of AATD, better understand the natural history of the disease, and ensure optimal access to effective care, with an emphasis on meeting the collective needs of the community of AATD research and bringing people with AATD deficiency to the center of the research environment in a real-world context.
This European network, promoted and coordinated by Dr. Miravitlles (Coordinator of the Catalan Alpha-1 Center), has the ultimate objective of studying natural history, risk factors and the role of intravenous therapy with alpha-1 antitrypsin in the course of this minority respiratory disease, joining efforts with the rest of Europe, both patients and researchers.
