European Alpha-1 Day [2020]

Early diagnosis and access to treatment, key demands of the European Alpha-1 Day.

The Alfa-1 Spain Association joins the European Alpha-1 Day, which the patient associations commemorate on Saturday April 25. Early diagnosis; access to treatment regardless of the territory in which they reside, and the measurement of Alpha-1 levels in tests carried out on newborns, are some of the demands of the group that requests a European strategy to combat a genetic condition , which favors the appearance of serious respiratory and liver diseases.   Spanish alphas celebrate their day from confinement and in rigorous isolation, given that it is a risk group for the coronavirus pandemic. Although they have not been able to hold their planned national meeting, patients and family members do not want to miss the day without remembering data such as the most serious form of severe DAAT affecting 12,500 to 14,000 people in Spain, most of them undiagnosed, and that the administration of the only available treatment varies depending on the Autonomous Communities and even the hospital in which the patient is treated.
